Goldfish Cloudy Eye

cloudy eye

Cloudy eye is a symptom that can be caused by any one of a range of goldfish illnesses, but the most common cause is poor water quality. It appears as a cloudy opaqueness over the entire eye (or eyes), or just the lens. This may sometimes be accompanied by mucus over the eye.

Other causes are: vitamin deficiency, eye flukes, eye damage, bacterial infection, velvet disease, goldfish ick, fish tuberculosis and on rare occasions digenetic flukes.

Although some of the goldfish illnesses that can cause cloudy eye are dangerous and can attack the nervous system, improving water quality will usually get rid of it. If in doubt, consult a pet shop or vet. Adding a little aquarium salt at every water change is thought to help prevent cloudy eye in goldfish.
